Festival and festivities of Senhora dos Remédios in August in Portugal

During 3 days : 14, 15 and 16 of August

The religious festival celebrating the Lady of Senhora dos Remédios the 15 of August has always been very important and turned up more pagan over the times.

Each year the festivities start August 14^th in the afternoon having a folk music group and a music band that encourages a great night of dancing followed by beautiful fireworks after midnight. This is the night for young people, in fact a big crowd moves around the church of the Lady of the Remedies.

The 15 of August the festival continues with some religious activities: the mass by mid day and the procession in the afternoon around the church and the village. The procession includes Senhora dos Remédios, Santa Teresinha and Blessed Nuno Alvares Pereira, flags, the priest and the participation of the filarmonic band of Sertã; it returns to the chapel and ends by an impressive moment when pilgrims say goodbye to the Virgin with handkerchiefs.

Then again in the evening another music band animates the festival, people socialize around grilled food, some drinks, dancing.
